It gets light later in the morning and darker earlier in the evening, the fog hangs low in the valleys of Rheinhessen and over the Rhine more and more often. Now all signs point to fall.
But it is precisely then that the wine landscape shows itself in its most beautiful fall dress. So take advantage of the sunny days to enjoy the most beautiful views and preserve them for the darker days.
I've put together a few tips for you on the outdoor spots around Ingelheim it's particularly worth unpacking your picnic rucksack and enjoying a leisurely snack and, of course, the panoramic views over Rheinhessen. So if you want to spread out your picnic blanket in the red wine town, you'll be spoiled for choice...
On the banks of the Rhine Heidenfahrt - Rheinaue, Rhine view and pure romance
Two cozy groups of tables under a shady chestnut tree invite you to sit right next to the Rhine Cycle Route for a well-deserved rest. The benches under the plane trees along the riverbank, which offer a sensational view across the Rhine to the Rheingau, provide additional seating. All kinds of fowl, ships chugging past and Father Rhine - pure picnic poetry!
The sundowner here in this exposed location is particularly recommended.
A parking lot is only a few minutes' walk away.

Carolinenhöhe barbecue area - panoramic view as far as the Rheingau
Directly at the Wine mile of Ingelheim, it is worth taking a break at the Carolinenhöhe.
A delicious Rheinhessen wine on a bench with a view as far as the Rheingau and the Binger Loch; on a clear day you can even see the Mäuseturm and the Germania. - The after-work atmosphere couldn't be better.
Several seating groups under the shady trees offer space for around 30 people. The barbecue area can be hired exclusively from the town of Ingelheim for celebrations. (1 parking space is located directly at the rest area, further parking facilities are approx. 500m away)

The adventure trail "Wine mile" also takes us past this viewing and picnic area. Along the way, information boards provide information about wine, winegrowing and vineyards in the red wine town of Ingelheim.
Over a glass of fine wine, we enjoy the panoramic view as far as the Bismarck Tower and the view of the late Gothic fortified church of Ober-Ingelheim, whose massive walls served as a retreat from enemy attacks in the Middle Ages. The last rays of summer sunshine can be enjoyed in a relaxed manner.
