Not so long ago, hiking was completely out. Today the tide has turned. The whole world is hiking. And we can all use a few feelings of happiness at the moment.

To make your way to hiking happiness in Rheinhessen as short as possible, I present you our two most popular hiking trails. The RheinTerrassenWeg and the Hiwweltouren. Let's start with the most beautiful long-distance hiking trail in Rheinhessen the RheinTerrassenWeg.

The RheinTerrassenWeg - Hiking between Worms to Mainz

The RheinTerrassenWeg meanders on a total of 6 stages with 75 kilometers through the Rhine-Hessian wine cultural landscape and connects the historic cities of Worms and Mainz. With its 12 stations along the way, the trail is equally suitable for a long-distance hike or individual stages.

Culture and Wine - The Highlights of the RheinTerrassenWeg

The Sights of the RheinTerrassenWeg are distributed along the entire hiking trail. In the northern part, a detour to Oppenheim is worthwhile. The underground cellar labyrinth and the St. Catherine's Church you must not miss here.

Near Nierstein, the trail touches the Rote Hang, one of the most famous vineyards in Germany, with the most beautiful view of the Rhine.

As a contrast to the tranquility of the RheinTerrassenweg, I recommend an extensive stay in the cities of Mainz and Worms. The mighty imperial cathedrals and the historical heritage of both cities are remarkable.

The Hiwwelt tours - hiking happiness on nine round tours

Hillier or "hiwwelig" as they say in Rheinhessen, is the way of the so-called "Hiwweltouren". Even though these hiking trails often lead through the middle of the vineyards, they come Variety and the nature hiking never too short. And behind every "Hiwwel" there are new views and insights. Sometimes the view sweeps over colorful flower meadows and forests, sometimes a hiking lounger invites you to take a break.

By the way, so that you can really enjoy the beautiful nature, all nine Hiwwelt tours are signposted in both directions and certified according to the criteria of the German Hiking Institute e.V. and German Hiking Association.

Nature and space - The highlights of the Hiwwelt tours

To list the sights of the Hiwwelt tours is not so easy. Especially in spring the detour to Rheinhessen is worthwhile. Now the fruit trees blossom and the fauna and flora awake to new life.

In no case you may miss Rheinhessen's only heath areas on the Hiwweltour Heideblick. Here you will find a landscape like only in the south of Europe. This is due to the almost Mediterranean climate and the volcanic rock of the area.

The most popular photo motif of all Hiwwelt tours is the Trullo near Flonheim on the Hiwweltour Aulheimer Valley. The vineyard tower in the style of an Apulian roundhouse has become almost a landmark of our region and a super popular picnic spot at sunset.

My tip for an unforgettable hiking vacation on the Hiwwelt tours is the Package hiking, wine and cuisine. You will be accommodated in Flonheim, one of the liveliest wine villages in Rheinhessen. From here you have four Hiwweltouren directly in front of the door and can in the evening still the typical wine gastronomy and several Rheinhessen-AUSGEZEICHNET Discover Vinotheques. All arranged for you, of course.

Culture and nature - both go in Rheinhessen

Whether you prefer more culture between Worms and Mainz on the RheinTerrassenWeg or completely in nature on the Hiwweltouren hiking, you have to decide ; -). But all hiking trails have one thing in common. The great views over the hilly country of Rheinhessen. Sometimes with a view of the skyline of Frankfurt or optionally on and the peaks of Taunus, Odenwald or the Palatinate appearing on the horizon.
