This dates back to the time when Mainz was a federal fortress and the Prussians and Austrians were in charge here. What better place than this to house the carnival museum, as the entire carnival is based on a satire of the occupying forces: the Prussians, the Austrians and the French. The museum, which is organized on a voluntary basis, is located in the basement and is open to visitors Tue-Sun from 11 am to 5
