Welcome to the Westhofen Wingertsheisjerweg

The sun The sun is shining, the sky is a deep blue, and it's not too warm. perfect conditions for a hike. Full of anticipation, I pack my backpack. Start and end point of the 8.8-kilometer circular trail is the parking lot at Nickelgarten. There is also an information board with helpful flyers. These provide hikers with interesting information about the theme trail.

I learn in it for example, that there are 54 Wingertsheisjer in Westhofen! These once served vintners or vineyard shooters as protection from wind and rain. In addition, they provided shade, a restful break from the hard work. hard work.

On the Westhofen Wingertsheisjerweg

My feet are already tingling expectantly. I start the hike and already reach the vineyards after a few minutes the vineyards. A short time later I see the Rosa Heisje. It was built in 1766. The house made of quarry stone should be renovation in 2009, it was supposed to get a red roof. The walls were plastered white. Unfortunately, the red color was not enough - the roof eventually became pink and thus got its name.

I wander further and enjoy the flowers, which form colorful spots in the grass and the enrich the entire hike immensely. Now I have arrived at the Heisje Blick: From up here I enjoy the magnificent view and let the view over a total of 14 Wingertsheisjer, idyllic vineyards and the Westhofener church tower church tower. Birds chirp excitedly, the gentle wind refreshes wonderfully. I would like to stay here longer, but curiosity drives me on. on.

The Wonnegau is known for its sunken paths. The Westhofener Wingertsheisjerweg leads me through the the Kirschbühl hollow. On the way up, I listen to the busy buzzing of the wild bees wild bees that have built their nests here. You need not be afraid of these peaceful animals bees, by the way, you don't need to be afraid of them at all - they stay out of out of the way. Once I reach the top, I enjoy a magnificent view: I can see Frankfurt, the Odenwald and the Rhine valley - magnificent.

Oh, how beautiful is Rheinhessen!

The gray mission Heisje with a barrel roof is my next stop on the Westhofen Wingertsheisjerweg. Between 1983 and 2005, believers could take notes from an open letterbox here. They contained praises from the Sisters of Mary from Darmstadt-Eberstadt or quotes from the Bible.

Even today, hikers can discover psalms that were placed on the on the Heisje. One example: "Come and behold the works of God, who is so wonderful!" These words could hardly be more apt: The beauty of Rheinhessen is particularly evident on the Westhofener Wingertsheisjerweg - picturesque vineyards, gently rolling hills, rough stones impressively demonstrate the diversity of the region.

My journey continues to the picturesque Julius Tower. It owes its name to its builder, Julius Grünewald. Construction began in 1966, and the tower was inaugurated in 1971. inaugurated. The beautiful building is made of quarry stone, brick and baroque parts. and was renovated in 1999. A real highlight of my hike! I can difficult to tear myself away - but the spirit of adventure still prevails.

Finally I reach a Wingertsheisje with an extremely promising name: The Liebesnest from 1934 is still very popular with couples today. This is evidenced by the eastern wall, on which there are numerous love oaths.

A menhir and many Heisjer

I hike I pass the little vineyard houses Peters Heisje and Gallé-Blick, and finally finally - you can see it from afar - to the 4.5 meter high Westhofener cross. Near it you can even admire a menhir! Already in the 14th century such a stone was mentioned at this place. However, it is probably in the local dry stone wall. The present one was placed in 2004.

My way leads after some time to the Vierecksheisje; in all likelihood it was built in 1920. it was built in 1920. I take a seat on the orange bench directly in front of the structure, close my eyes and let the sun shine on my face. This wonderful little time out as a reward for the ascent I have really earned!

The route now continues to the Zweiraum-Heisje. From there, hikers have a breathtaking view, for example, of the Donnersberg. After the Obere Brunnenheisje, you walk pleasantly on and finally arrive at the command center from 1766. The round structure bears this name because the command center for controlling the starling defense equipment was located here in the fall.

I now reach now the Excellent Heisje. How did the building get its name? In 1996 the the Trullo received an award from the wine brotherhood Rheinhessen. Now I am immersed into a veritable sea of vines and look at the gnarled vines with their still still tiny, tender, green leaves. This sweetens my somewhat longer walk to the Chinese Heisje with its funny pointed roof. This trullo was probably built at the end of the 18th century.

After that I pass the unfinished Heisje and finally arrive at the Oriental Heisje, a a squat barrel-roofed house. I am amazed at how different the vineyard houses are: No two are alike. Each one captivates by its very own charm. Since stones from the local quarries were used for the construction quarries were used for the construction instead of wood, which is susceptible to weathering, the Heisjer Heisjer have survived the centuries almost unscathed. What luck!

The end of my hike is approaching. A beautiful eye-catcher is the water house with its lovingly landscaped garden. The building was erected in 1905 in Art Nouveau style. It once served as a water supply, but was shut down in the 1960s because the water pressure was no longer sufficient.

A little exhausted but happy

Now the hiker can choose whether to go straight back to the starting point (parking lot at the Nickelgarten) or to make a detour into the historic center of the village. town center. Worth seeing here are the beautiful market square and the well-known cellar alley. At the Kneipp facility, you can refresh your tired legs - in the elegant in the elegant Storchengang!

I really liked the Westhofener Wingertsheisjerweg and can only recommend everyone to hike it for themselves once: The tour leads through varied landscape and to architecturally interesting vineyard houses - great fun for the whole family! I am in any case completely from the Heisje ...
