Where conviviality meets indulgence: 3 charming cafés in Rheinhessen

Table of contents

There is no better place to meet up for a chat than in a café. In addition to exciting conversations, culinary delights are also a must: fragrant coffee specialties, homemade cakes and hearty delicacies make our hearts beat faster. So that you can also treat yourself to such a time-out, I would like to introduce you to three special Cafés in Rheinhessen present. These include two wine cafés - very fitting for a region that is passionately dedicated to the juice of the vine.

Adlerhof Wine Café, Sankt Johann

Our first stop is the Adlerhof wine café in Sankt Johann. Cheerful laughter is already wafting over to us from the Mediterranean terrace, inviting us to linger. Inside, the café exudes a cozy atmosphere: black and white tiled flooring meets comfy armchairs, chic chairs and a couch covered in cushions. Freshly picked bouquets of flowers are placed on the tables.

Owner Natascha Popp attaches great importance not only to stylish furnishings but also to regional and seasonal products of organic quality. True to the motto: plant-based cuisine with animal company. The undisputed highlight is the homemade rye and spelt bread, which is allowed to mature in peace. If you're lucky, you'll get one and can take it home with you. But if you want to be on the safe side, you'd better order it in advance.

Do you fancy a high-quality breakfast in the wine café? The eggs for this come exclusively from the hotel's own hens. Every Sunday you can also enjoy a sumptuous breakfast buffet with delicacies from the Adlerhof kitchen such as freshly made spelt rolls, brioche, cakes and much more.

At noon, the café smells particularly tempting: this is when the home-baked dinnele are pulled out of the oven. The spelt and rye sourdough flatbreads are topped with goat's cheese, honey, pears and walnuts, for example. A glass of wine is the perfect finishing touch.

The café opens its doors to hungry guests from Thursday to Sunday. In addition, every Thursday evening a varied program: whether it's a games evening, a reading or cabaret - unforgettable hours are guaranteed.

Café Blumenliebe, Wallertheim

We are now drawn to Nina and Thomas Riehl in Wallertheim: their Café Blumenliebe has been a popular meeting place in the heart of Rheinhessen since June 2024. From Fridays to Sundays, you can meet up with your loved ones here for a relaxing break and reflect on your busy working week.

The child and dog-friendly café is both modern and cozy at the same time: Stylish lamps dangle from the ceiling, tasteful pictures and floral arrangements adorn the walls, while small floral greetings on the tables ensure a good mood. If you take a seat outside, you will also be surrounded by numerous blooming beauties. The name of the café could hardly be more fitting ...

The lovely arrangements all come from the neighboring flower store Biene Maya, which is run by Thomas Riehl. How nice - first you can enjoy your visit to the café to the full and then browse next door and look for something decorative to take home.

The café scores with weekly changing, home-baked cakes and tarts - plus a steaming coffee creation and the pleasure is perfect. Simply stop by the cake display case and choose your favorite. You can also order a hearty breakfast here. Good quality is key: here, for example, you are guaranteed not to find any baked rolls.

Do you love wine more than anything? Delicious wines from regional winegrowers are also on the menu. Of course, something hearty goes well with it: you can choose between a crispy aioli baguette or an Alsatian-style tarte flambée. The cordial hosts leave nothing to be desired.

Mathis' Wine Café, Kettenheim

Last but not least, we head to tranquil Kettenheim: the Mathis family welcomes you to an idyllic mill. In addition to an event location, a branch of the registry office and a guest house for event participants, the listed building also houses a charming wine café. It is located in a beautiful historic high vault.

We Rheinhessen are known for our conviviality - it's good manners for us to allow newly arrived guests to join us. This is also the case here - the tables are deliberately placed close together. This makes it easy for you to make new contacts; good conversations come naturally. Hosts with heart: Personal contact with their guests is very important to the Mathis family. Some valuable friendships have even developed in this way.

The café also has plenty of culinary delights up its sleeve: sweet tooths can choose between various cakes and a tart. With a bit of luck, Mama's legendary cheesecake will also be on the menu. Those who prefer something savory can enjoy a tarte flambée. Homemade spring rolls are also available on selected days.

Slowing down made easy: the terrace above the café offers fantastic views of swaying trees, expansive meadows and fields as well as the Wartberg tower in Alzey. A cozy spot for a good glass of Rhine-Hessian wine - enjoying life made easy.
