Motorhome, Worscht and Woi - Womo sites in Rheinhessen

Table of contents

Those who come to Rheinhessen with their mobile home will find between Mainz and Worms a variety of different pitches.

Reason enough to take our motorhome on a short tour through Rheinhessen. Our plan: From Guntersblum to Nierstein to Gau-Algesheim, we want to take a closer look at three special sites and what's on offer around them.

Simple, relaxing and eventful - the motorhome site in Guntersblum

For our first night we head for the public Pitch of the city in Guntersblum on Alsheimer Strasse. This is just a few minutes' walk outside the center and sometimes also serves as a festival site. Although there are no designated plots, the site is large enough for up to 16 (even longer) motorhomes and offers both several power columns and a central supply and disposal station. We immediately discover the many seating areas and the covered barbecue area.

Situated directly below the vineyards, the campsite is particularly suitable as an ideal starting point for extensive hikes, bike tours or even Nordic walking, because one of the signposted routes starts right here at the site. A network of more than 110 kilometers invites you to hike and Nordic walking in Guntersblum and the neighboring mountain communities. The trails have different levels of difficulty and reward with magnificent views of the near and distant surroundings.

From the square itself, it is also not far into the pretty village center of Guntersblum, where numerous Straußwirtschaften and restaurants spoil you with many delicacies from the region. During our stroll through Guntersblum, we spontaneously decide on the restaurant "Wine Gold" In the beautiful courtyard and with a delicious Rheinhessen wine from the Domhof winery with matching specialties from the kitchen, we let the first evening of our tour come to an end.

Excellent wines and distant views as far as Frankfurt - the site of the Gehring winery

The next morning we enjoy a small breakfast in front of our motorhome with fresh rolls from the village before we pack up table and chairs and head further north to Nierstein.

The little more than 10 kilometers parallel to the Rhine lead us relaxed on the B9 via Oppenheim to Nierstein, where we turn onto the B420, which takes us uphill to the Winery Gehring leads.

We almost miss the small driveway that leaves directly to the right of the road to the winery and are amazed when a panorama like from Tuscany opens up to us and our camper. On the plateau of the winery we feel immediately welcome as we pass the main house and continue to the beautifully landscaped camper site where we still find a free plot of the total 30. Especially on weekends, you should book online at the Gehring Estate, as the site is very popular with many campers from near and far.

And we can understand why: the dreamlike location between the vineyards creates a vacation feeling as soon as we get out of the motor home. We stand with the muzzle of our vehicle directly in front of the vines, from which in a few weeks and months the best Rheinhessen wine will be produced. And as our gaze wanders from the ground up to the horizon, an almost indescribable view opens up to us, all the way into the Rhine-Main region to Frankfurt. In good weather, we can make out the skyscrapers of the Main metropolis, whose skyline gives off a soothing sea of lights even at night. Nearby we can see the Wartturm of Nierstein and the castle tower of Schwabsburg.

In addition to a supply and disposal facility, we also find toilets and showers on the estate, which are maintained in an exemplary manner. The grassy plots offer space even for large campers and should it still be tight, there is still enough space available with the adjacent meadow. Bread rolls and newspapers are delivered directly to the site by the Gehring family on advance order.

But not only the pitch meets the highest standards. The winemaking couple Diana and Theo Gehring offer on their winery with a Rheinhessen EXCELLENT Vinotheque and the connected Wine industry also offers only the best for the palate. These include local, award-winning and excellent wines, which have now even been joined by kosher varieties, as well as regional food lovingly prepared from local ingredients by members of the Gehring family and helpers.

From time to time, Gehrings invite guests to special events that take place in the large pavilion or in the large open space on the grounds.

From the campsite you can explore the surrounding area wonderfully on foot or by bike. We walk along fruit trees down the hill in the direction of Nierstein and after a few meters we pass some shopping facilities where we get everything our hearts desire for our empty fridge.

Nierstein itself is a beautiful wine town, located directly on the Rhine. We sit down on the bank and enjoy our Italian ice cream, which we treated ourselves to in the large ice cream parlor right on the main street. That's what a vacation must be like! At the market place of Nierstein we return in the evening to the "Civitas" a. The wine restaurant offers the best French cuisine with Rhine-Hessian influences in a very cozy atmosphere. And while we enjoy the delicious winegrower's tiramisu with grapes at the end of our meal, we are already planning the next stop on our motorhome tour.

There the camper heart beats faster - the parking lot in Gau-Algesheim

Almost 40 kilometers northwest of Nierstein lies the small town of Gau-Algesheim. On the way there, we pass Ingelheim, which is also directly at the open-air swimming pool via a Camper site has. The site "Im Blumengarten" offers up to eight motorhomes supply and disposal and electricity. But we decide to drive on to neighboring Gau-Algesheim.

On the Pitch in Gau-Algesheim arrived, we are immediately pleasantly surprised by the size of the site: this can accommodate up to 38 motorhomes! Reservations are not possible. Although all plots are tarred, but the RV park itself is located in the middle of greenery and within walking distance to the center of Gau-Algesheim. Perfect for all kinds of activities! We inform ourselves about the many leisure activities in the town in the small wooden house at the entrance to the site. We browse through the brochures on display and stock up for the planning of our further activities - and there is a really large offer of these in Gau-Algesheim.

We get into conversation with our short-term neighbors. Hedwig and Herbert tell us that the site is their favorite in Rheinhessen, because you can reach everything in no time and this in particular to the "Feast of the young wine"which always takes place on the second weekend in October, is occupied down to the last plot. And while they get on their little e-scooters to explore the area, we get to work filling our hotel on wheels with fresh water again at the supply and disposal station.

Then we stroll towards the marketplace of the small wine town. Here we really find everything you need. Restaurants, wine taverns, wine bars, ice cream parlors, cafes, stores, bakeries and butcher stores are on our way. Directly at the campsite is also a large supermarket for self-sufficiency.

For the evening we visit the Restaurant "Elder. Located directly on the market square, it offers modern German cuisine, selected classics and varied seasonal offerings from the region and, of course, a good drop or two from Rheinhessen. A real gourmet tip from Herbert, our square neighbor.

Conclusion:

Exploring Rheinhessen by motorhome is a wonderful experience for families as well. Many small and large, well equipped pitches invite you to explore the surroundings on foot or by bike, enjoy nature or stroll through the streets and alleys in the picturesque towns. We will definitely come back, because there is still so much to discover here with the camper!
